Milliken Acquires Westex

Specialty fabrics and chemicals manufacturer Milliken & Company, Spartanburg, has acquired flame-resistant (FR) fabrics manufacturer Westex Inc., Chicago.

Westex, founded in 1919, first produced FR fabrics during World War II for the U.S. military. In 1987, The company launched a research and development program that led to the creation of Indura®, the first 100-percent cotton FR fabric, which offers permanent protection from electric arc flash, flash fire, molten ferrous metal and welding exposures. Westex’s other FR brands include UltraSoft®, UltraSoft AC®, TrueComfort™, Moda-Quilt® and Vinex®.

Westex’s production plant in Sylvania, Ga., will remain open.
