Alexium Nears Completion Of Second Ascalon™ Trials

Alexium International Group Ltd., Australia and Greer, S.C., has almost completed its second full-scale production trial with manufacturing partner and North American licensee Duro Textiles LLC, Fall River, Mass., for Ascalon™ flame-retardant (FR) treatment for nylon.

Alexium has implemented manufacturing-level process changes and chemistry enhancements that have improved key FR criteria for the finished product by 68 percent.

Independent testing laboratory Magill Services Inc., Conway, S.C., has verified Ascalon's vertical burn performance. The testing is intended to provide guides for variable production setups and broaden the technology's potential product applications.

Using test data results, Alexium adjusted the Ascalon technology, achieving a 44-percent improvement in key FR performance measures and a 58-percent reduction in the variability in those measures.
