InterfaceFABRIC Wins Award For PLA Composting Project

The Society of Plastics Engineers, Brookfield, Conn., has given its New Technologies in Renewables award to InterfaceFABRIC, the contract fabrics division of Atlanta-based Interface Inc. The award recognizes InterfaceFabric’s composting project using one of its bio-based Terratex® fabrics made with polylactic acid (PLA).

The company teamed with Michigan State University Extension, the Michigan Department of Environmental Quality, and Holland, Mich.-based Herman Miller Inc. and Shady Side Farm to develop a composting process that can be replicated at a commercial scale to produce compost that can be used as a high-quality soil amendment and sold to landscape companies.
