Gerber Offers Cutting Solution For Developing Markets
Tolland, Conn.-based Gerber
Technology — the apparel and flexible materials business of South Windsor, Conn.-based Gerber
Scientific Inc. — has developed its new GERBERcutter® XLc7000™ automated cutting solution
especially for apparel makers in developing markets.
Designed and engineered in Tolland, the new cutter is Gerber’s first to be manufactured in China, through Gerber Scientific (Shanghai) Co. Ltd., a wholly owned subsidiary. The cutter contains components made both in China and in the United States.
According to the company, the XLc7000 is economically priced and very easy to use, accurately cutting up to 7 centimeters of compressed material, including a wide range of fabric types in widths of up to 2 meters.
“As the first automated cutter to be manufactured in China, the XLc7000 represents an important milestone for our China supply chain initiative,” said Marc T. Giles, president and CEO, Gerber Scientific. “We are now producing several products and plan to increase our China manufacturing capabilities in the future.”
Ramatex Group, a Malaysia-based integrated textile and apparel company and longtime Gerber customer, ordered two of the cutters to use in its facility.
“We tested the Gerber XLc7000 for more than two months and were satisfied with its cut quality and output,” said OM Ma, director, Ramatex.
