Performance Fibers To Expand

Performance Fibers Inc., Colonial Heights, Va., expects its new high-modulus, low-shrinkage polyester fiber and fabric facilities in Kaiping, China, to be completed by the first quarter of 2006. The company also is building the infrastructure to further double its capacity at the site.

“This expansion will increase our [dimensionally stable polyester (DSP®)] yarn capacity and our DSP fabric capacity in China by more than 300 percent,” said H.J. Sha, vice president and general manager, Performance Fibers in Asia.

The new plant will produce and convert DSP polyester fibers for products for China’s tire industry.

This is the second expansion at the Kaiping facility in two years. The company doubled capacity at the original plant by adding new production lines in early 2005. Performance Fibers plans a further doubling of DSP fiber and fabric capacity in China by 2008.
