SSM Introduces Digitens

SSM Schr Schweiter Mettler AG, Switzerland, now offers the digitens system for improved tension control as yarns are rewound from feeder packages onto bobbins. According to the company, the new system enables higher production speeds and equipment efficiency by controlling the increase and reduction of winding tension, adjusting it as needed according to downstream processing requirements.

The digitens system comprises a feeder roller, a disc brake and a sensor for on-line monitoring of the winding tension. It is suitable for use with a wide range of yarns and operates in two modes: one used without the brake for staple, elastic and textured yarns that require control of the speed of the delivery roller; and the other used with controlled force of the brake for non-elastic yarns such as viscose, silk or flat filament yarns that require constant speed of the feeder roller.

Control settings are programmed from a central terminal, with individual settings for each position. The system enables consistent package density and diameter that can be adjusted according to application for example, to ensure even dyeing in package-dyeing operations and also to optimize take-off action. The system is suitable for use on all new SSM winders including models PW1-W, PW2-W, DP1-W and DP2-W; and also as an upgrade for models PS6, DP1-W and PW1-W.
