Mitigation Technologies Selects Honeywell Polyester

Mitigation Technologies Inc., Columbia, Md., has selected Morris Township, N.J.-based Honeywell International's high-strength A.C.E.® polyester fiber for use in its Safetydrape Defender II glass hazard mitigation system. The patented drapery system is designed to reduce the dangers associated with flying debris and glass shards that result from a bomb blast.

Evaluations using ASTM International test methods show A.C.E. outperforms fibers used in the first-generation system, demonstrating improved breaking strength by more than 200 percent.

"Honeywell's fibers already are used in body and vehicle armor," according to Jeff Shugart, global marketing manager, Honeywell Performance Fibers. "Introducing polyester for blast curtains is natural for us and enables Honeywell to apply expertise and expand product offerings for growth markets such as homeland security," he said.
