Focused Factory Wins Inaugural Russell Safety Award

Atlanta-based Russell Corp. recently presented the first Charles E. Robinson Safety Award to its Focused Factory in Alexander City, Ala.Named for Russells safety director, Charles E. Robinson, the annual award honors a plant that is considered a safety role model for all Russell facilities.Criteria used to evaluate the performance of the factorys 680 employees included frequency rate, lost-time rate, man-hours worked, operation performed, overall improvement, results of planned and unplanned safety audits, and workers compensation costs.This is the first year of the award and Focused Factory was selected based on its performance in 2002. The award will become an annual event to recognize the plant that exemplifies our safety vision based on overall outstanding performance in multiple safety categories, said Kelly Harmon, group manager, safety and workers compensation.
