McCleery Ciba Constab Develop UV-FR Yarn For Nortex Fabric

McCleery Yarns Ltd., Northern Ireland, in cooperation with Ciba Specialty Chemicals Inc., Switzerland, and Constab Additive Polymers (UK) Ltd., England, has developed a polypropylene yarn that, in fabric form, offers ultraviolet (UV) stabilization and complies with the European M1 fire safety standard. The yarn, used in Perfentex fabric part of the Nortex collection from England-based Interface Fabrics Group Ltd. contains Cibas FLAMESTAB® fire-retardant (FR) and UV-stabilization additive. End-uses include domestic and contract upholstery products. We were able to use our technical resources to fine-tune the primary additive systems and develop the necessary co-additives to improve processability at all stages, said David Burden, managing director, Constab Additive Polymers. The end result is an excellent example of collaboration between additive supplier, masterbatch manufacturer, yarn producer and fabric supplier.
