DuPont Expands Capacity To Meet Demands For Nylon 6 6

DuPont TextilesandInteriors (DTI), Wilmington, Del., has announced a $15 million investment to support the growing need for industrial nylon 6,6 fibers in automotive and other inflatable restraint devices. The company said the investment will be made over three years beginning in 2003.According to Dan Stone, global airbag business manager, DTI, the additional capacity is designed to manufacture high-quality, high-tenacity nylon 6,6 yarns to meet market demands for side-impact and side-curtain airbags. Market projections cited by DTI indicate that the need for airbag units may double in the next five to eight years.
