Burton, Apple Introduce Wearable Electronic Jacket

Burton Snowboards, Burlington, Vt., and Apple Computers Inc., Cupertino, Calif., recently unveiled the limited-edition Burton Amp electronic snowboarding jacket, designed exclusively for use with Apple's iPod portable digital music player.

The iPod system, integrated into the jacket using SOFTswitch technology, is held in the jackets chest pocket. The system is controlled through a soft, flexible control pad placed in the arm of the jacket, allowing the wearer to touch the pad on the sleeve to change songs or volume levels.

The Burton Amp is designed for use with the 5GB, 10GB or 20GB iPod. It allows storage of up to 4,000 songs and has a battery life of up to 10 hours.

The jacket, constructed of Gore-Tex® three-layered fabric, is waterproof and seam-taped, and is machine-washable once the iPod and interface module have been removed.
