AmericanandEfird To Consolidate North Carolina Plants

AmericanandEfird ToConsolidate North Carolina PlantsAmericanandEfird (A and E), the industrial sewing thread subsidiary of Ruddick Corp., Charlotte, will reduce U.S. production capacity by consolidating machinery operations at its Mount Holly and Gastonia dyeing and finishing plants in North Carolina. The companys action is in response to a shift of manufacturing outside of the United States, increased imports from Asia and weak consumer spending. The finished goods warehousing for both plants will be consolidated in the Gastonia facility. The company estimates 98 jobs will be lost at the affected plants. April 2002
