Cargill Dow Technology Wins Industry Honors

NatureWorks PLA technology, developed by Minnetonka, Minn.-based Cargill Dow LLC, has been named by Industry Week and Popular Mechanics as one of the most influential developments of the past year. Industry Week ranked NatureWorks PLA as one of the top technologies of the year 2000, while Popular Mechanics selected the fiber as a winner of one of its 2001 Design and Engineering Awards because of the impact it is making in the chemical, fiber and plastics industries.The NatureWorks process harnesses the carbon naturally stored in plants through the process of photosynthesis to create a polymer that can be used for common consumer items including clothing, food containers and furnishings.
