The two companies are equal partners in the joint venture. John M. Carpenter of DuPont has been named president of DuPont-Akra and Jorge Bustamante of Alpek will be chief financial officer. The power of two combining DuPonts strengths in marketing and technology with Alpeks widely recognized strengths in manufacturing efficiency will help our customers win in the marketplace with Dacron, Carpenter said.According to the company, DuPont-Akra will initially produce 750 million pounds of staple fiber annually. The company will build a state-of-the-art manufacturing facility at Alpeks terephthalic acid production site in Altamira, Mexico.
