Germany-based circular knitting machinery manufacturer Mayer & Cie GmbH & Co. KG reported its financial performance in 2007 was better than expected, with sales of 1,690 machines representing a 5.2-percent increase over 2006 sales.

Effective April 15, Wellman Inc., Fort Mill, S.C., will raise its Fortrel® polyester staple fiber product prices by 4 cents per pound.

Celanese Raises PVOH Prices
Effective April 1 or as contracts allow, Dallas-based Celanese Corp. will raise the price of all polyvinyl alcohol (PVOH) grades worldwide. US and Canadian prices will increase by 10 to 20 cents per pound; Mexican, Central and South American, and Asian prices will increase by $225 to $450 per ton; and European prices will increase by 150 to 300 euros per ton.

Hill-Rom, a medical technology subsidiary of Batesville, Ind.-based Hillenbrand Industries Inc., has selected State College, Pa.-based nanotechnology provider NanoHorizons Inc.'s SmartSilver™ antimicrobial technology to provide protection against pathogens on beds and therapeutic surfaces in medical settings. The technology will be branded nanoAg+™ with SmartSilver™.
