Propex Receives U.S. Patent For EX3® Carpet Backing Technology
Propex Operating Co. LLC — a Chattanooga, Tenn.-based producer of man-made carpet backing and a
provider of infrastructure and packaging solutions — has received a U.S. patent for the yarn
manufacturing technology used to make its EX3® line of lightweight carpet backing.
The technology enables Propex to produce uniquely textured tape yarns for carpet backing as well as for geotextiles and packaging applications.
According to the company, EX3 carpet backing offers carpet manufacturers benefits including the ability to produce higher-resolution patterned carpets; 20-percent larger rolls, which translates into fewer backing changes on tufting machines; and up to 12-percent reduced energy consumption during manufacturing.
