Kraig Biocraft Laboratories Inc., Lansing, Mich., reports its new laboratory has quadrupled the company’s ability to cultivate the transgenic silkworms that produce its proprietary Monster Silk™ recombinant spider silk-based fiber. The increased capability is a further step toward the company’s goal of commercializing the fiber, which has potential applications in a range of performance and other textile end products (See “ Kraig Labs To Open Research Lab, Expand Operations,” Textile World, May/June 2012).

“We knew that the increase in our laboratory production would be fundamental to the commercialization of Monster Silk,” said Kim K. Thompson, founder and CEO, Kraig Biocraft Laboratories. “Now that the new laboratory is working as planned, we are looking to exponentially expand our production of Monster Silk.”
