Past And Present Employees Pay Tribute To Americhem In 70th Year

CUYAHOGA FALLS, Ohio — Nov. 29, 2011 — Americhem Inc., a global provider of custom color and additive solutions for polymer-based products, celebrates 70 years in business on Nov. 29. To commemorate the occasion, key leaders pay tribute by sharing what the anniversary means to them.

"The 70th Anniversary means that I have worked for a company that has made good decisions and has been able to withstand tough economic times," said Linda Manfull, plant manager at Americhem's Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio manufacturing plant and 26-year employee. "It means the values and principles from Americhem's early years have stood the test of time."

"The 70th anniversary recognizes a company that's been able to expand and provide jobs for people," said Bill Fowler, compounder and 41-year Americhem employee. "It was one of my first jobs, and I found it to be a good company to work for throughout the years. Americhem has taken care of me," continued Fowler, who has never missed a day of work.

Rick Mathew, another 41-year employee who currently is serving as a consultant to Americhem following his retirement in 2007, described Americhem as a family. "The anniversary is a tribute to the hard work and effort of everyone that I knew and loved," he said. Reflecting on some of his favorite memories, Mathew said, "Everyone really cared about each other and the organization."

The Americhem family has grown since its inception in 1941 as a manufacturer's representative to the rubber industry to its present-day status as a world leader in the production of color and additive masterbatches for polymeric products. To mark its significant achievements, Americhem created a timeline identifying its most memorable milestones, including:

1941 - The Caldwell Co., a manufacturer's representative, founded by Sylvester S. Caldwell in Akron, Ohio
1953 - Richard H. (Dick) Juve, Americhem's founder, joined the company
1959 - Company name changed to Americhem, Inc. to mark the change to a manufacturer of color concentrates
1965 - Company moves to present headquarters in Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio
1969 - First masterbatches for vinyl siding produced
1986 - Developed technology for solution-dyed fibers
1991 - First masterbatch for PVC decking applications produced
2006 - Introduced outdoor color line for PET

"A proud 70-year history has made Americhem one of the most respected and influential leaders in thermoplastic coloring," said Stanley Teoh, general manager, Asia at the Suzhou, China plant. "Counting on our strengths and core competencies, we will continue to grow together for perhaps another 70 years and more."

"The 70th anniversary is proof that a company with a unique culture and dedication to serving its customers can be a huge success," said Frank Fire, retired executive vice president of sales and marketing and 39-year Americhem employee. "It means the continuation of an enterprise in which I had some part in helping to develop."

Cathy Hanlin, vice president of human resources and organizational development and 26-year Americhem employee, believes the best part of working at Americhem throughout the years is the people. "The people I work with are fun, caring and hardworking," she said. "It's the perfect combination, and my wish is that future generations will have the same benefits that I've enjoyed."

Doug Croley, national account manager, also shares his favorite memories from his 40 years at Americhem. "The sales meetings and tradeshows are at the top of my list," he said. "They were opportunities to get together with people you don't see much throughout the year. It was a combination of the camaraderie and the energy you take away from those types of activities that make them stand out to me."

Although each employee contributed to Americhem's growth and success in their own way, they have similar hopes for the future of the company. "I hope Americhem continues creating high-quality products to keep them in business for another 70 years," said Tom Gorog, retired plant manager and 40-year Americhem employee.

"I'm looking forward to being part of opportunities to further develop and grow Americhem's offerings," said Larry Campbell, global technology director for nonwovens and synthetic turf. Campbell is entering his 41st year of service.

"I hope the company continues for another 70 years with the same principles, values and passions that have served us so well for the last 70 years," said Craig MacDougall, Europe, Middle East and Africa General Manager and 15-year Americhem employee.

CEO Rick Juve, who has been with the company 29 years, credits the employees of Americhem for its ongoing success. "A large core of dedicated people built the company over the years. As a result, we've hopefully made a difference in people's lives."

Mark Juve, the third-generation of the Juve family at Americhem, also acknowledges employees. "Without the dedication of employees, Americhem wouldn't be here today," he said.

Throughout 2011, Americhem has celebrated its anniversary with its global employees, customers and communities in which the company operates.
