Mohawk Industries’ SmartStrand® Carpet Recognized In Georgia Grown Campaign

Dalton, Ga.-based floor covering manufacturer Mohawk Industries Inc.'s Smartstrand® Contract carpet has been recognized by the Georgia Department of Agriculture's "Georgia Grown" program, which helps retailers promote locally grown produce and manufactured goods to consumers.

Mohawk's SmartStrand Contract is engineered specifically for commercial and hospitality applications with inherent stain, soil and bleach resistance; resistance to crushing and matting; and good colorfast properties. The carpet is made with Wilmington, Del.-based DuPont's DuPont™ Sorona® biobased polymer, which contains 37-percent renewably sourced ingredients by weight. SmartStrand also complies with Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Credit MR 6.0 for rapidly renewable materials, and can be recycled back into carpet and various end-use products.

"The Georgia Department of Agriculture shares our deep rooted commitment to building sustainable communities," said Tom Lape, president of residential and commercial business, Mohawk. "We are honored that they recognize SmartStrand Contract as a 'Georgia Grown' carpet with an innovative fiber system, bio-cell backing and numerous green attributes."

Mohawk has donated all of the SmartStrand Contract carpet installed at the Georgia Department of Agriculture building in Atlanta.

"I believe the future is bright for Georgia, thanks to innovative companies such as The Mohawk Group, who have a real passion for developing and manufacturing sustainable products," said Georgia Agriculture Commissioner Gary W. Black. "These products make our world a better, healthier place, and I am proud we could utilize SmartStrand Contract in the Georgia Department of Agriculture building."
