AAFA Applauds House Vote to Protect U.S. Jobs

ARLINGTON, Va. — December 1, 2011 — American Apparel & Footwear Association (AAFA) President and CEO Kevin M. Burke welcomed yesterday's 235-188 vote by the U.S. House of Representatives to approve the Workforce Democracy and Fairness Act (H.R. 3094), legislation that would guarantee a 35 day period of time before a union election can be held in the workplace. The bill now goes to the U.S. Senate for consideration.

"The decision to unionize in the workplace should be made on sound reasoning. The Workforce Democracy and Fairness Act passed by the House yesterday will provide workers ample time to make an informed decision and a fair election process for employers. This is win-win legislation.

"I applaud the House for acting on this important legislation. I urge the Senate to quickly pass this legislation that eliminates a barrier to job creation."
