Sensor Products Releases Sigma-Nip® Version 2.2

Madison, N.J.-based Sensor Products Inc. — manufacturer and distributor of tactile pressure sensing solutions — has released the first update to its Sigma-Nip® electronic nip analysis system for measuring nip width on textile, pulp and paper, printing and converting rolls. Sigma-Nip Version 2.2 is able to operate in heat environments ranging from 0°F to 300°F and pressure environments ranging from 40 pounds per square inch (psi) to 10,000 psi, as well as in higher-moisture environments compared with the original system. The system features new electronic hardware including sensor and casing materials that can withstand repeated use in demanding environments and routine exposure to heat, grease, liquids and inks. Its diagnostic software is easy to use, according to Sensor Products, and it updates in real time as pressure adjustments to the rollers are made. Nip profiles may be viewed in several software formats.

Sigma-Nip is offered in the standard version as well as the Mini Sigma-Nip, which can be used with rollers that have smaller circumferences or with larger hard roller sets that have small contact areas. Face lengths can range from 35 to 443 inches, and nip widths can range from 0.15 to 9 inches. Sensor Products notes that the same sensor chain can handle a range of nip widths.
