Shaw To Shutter Chatsworth Plant

Dalton, Ga.-based carpet manufacturer and floor covering supplier Shaw Industries Group Inc. has announced plans to shut down its Plant 82 spun yarn facility in Chatsworth, Ga., citing decreasing demand in the carpet industry for staple yarn systems and increasing demand for products manufactured with filament yarn. The company reports the closing is necessary to balance production.

Plant 82 employs approximately 306 people. Shaw will work to transfer employees to positions at its other locations, and will partner with the Georgia Department of Labor to offer counseling, outplacement assistance and retraining.
