Pulcra Chemicals LLC To Relocate To Rock Hill, SC

Charlotte-based Pulcra Chemicals LLC -- a supplier of textile- and fiber-processing chemicals, and the North American business of Germany-based Pulcra Chemicals GmbH -- has announced it will invest more than $2.6 million to establish new headquarters at the former IsoChem facility in Rock Hill, S.C. The company will bring on line new manufacturing and warehousing capabilities as well as add 15 jobs to its existing workforce of 30.

The company was formerly the Process Chemicals strategic business unit of Germany-based Cognis Deutschland GmbH & Co. KG, a global supplier of specialty chemicals and nutritional ingredients. In July 2007, Cognis spun off the unit and renamed it Pulcra Chemicals.

"When Pulcra was carved out from Cognis in 2007, it was an operating business with intellectual property and employees, but without manufacturing or real estate," said Dr. Jeffrey T. Langley, managing director, Pulcra Chemicals. "We're currently headquartered in Charlotte, with our lab and office there, and facilities we lease from Cognis. We've been looking for a permanent physical home for the business, and the property in Rock Hill gives us laboratory, office, warehouse and plant capabilities, so it's a good physical long-term home for the business."

The new manufacturing and warehousing capabilities are expected to come on line in the second quarter of 2011.
