Source4Style Offers Web-Based Marketplace For Sustainable Materials

NEW YORK, NY -- August 9, 2010 -- Source4Style, a B2B online marketplace that allows fashion and interior designers to search and purchase sustainable materials from around the globe is poised to launch its beta site to the public at the end of September 2010.

The sourcing platform, founded by model and sustainability strategist Summer Rayne Oakes and fair trade entrepreneur Benita Singh recently launched in private beta at the end of May to a select number of users. Oakes, who has designed more environmentally-preferable product lines with Payless ShoeSource and Portico Home and Singh, who has sourced artisan crafts for brands like Barnes & Noble, Gaiam, Levi Strauss & Co., and Whole Foods, found a clear need in the industry for better sourcing options, particularly for environmentally- and socially-compliant materials, which require certification and verification.

Currently the site hosts 25 suppliers and over 1000 materials, such as organic cottons, Tencel and Tencel blends, hand-woven silks, reclaimed textiles, and other novel fabrics and materials.

"Our market research reveals that designers have difficulty accessing information on sustainable materials and spend more time researching than designing," says Oakes. Source4Style's aim is to reduce the amount of time and money that designers and retail sourcing specialists currently spend looking to source and purchase quality raw materials. For sustainable suppliers, Source4Style will provide a unique opportunity to display their stories and product offerings in a clear and concise way to a range of interested buyers.

Source4Style will service independent fashion and interior designers as well as retail sourcing teams - many who have which already signed up to the site. "It's thrilling to see design and sourcing teams from Sears, Mountain Equipment Co-op, Ralph Lauren, Helmut Lang, and many others signing up to source on Source4Style," says Oakes.

"By allowing designers to source swatches and yardage at the click of a button, Source4Style will make sustainable design the norm. We basically give brands no reason to source another way," says co-founder Singh.

Source4Style will showcase this year at the RITE Conference, New York Fashion Week, Vancouver Eco Fashion Week and others. Designers and retail sourcing specialists can pre-register for the site during the beta period at www.source4style.com. The first 50 suppliers who sign up before September 25, 2010 will have their sign-up fees waived.
