Wacker Chemie Establishes New US Headquarters, Technical Center In Pennsylvania

Germany-based Wacker Chemie AG -- a manufacturer of binders and polymer additives used in printing inks, coatings and construction chemicals, among other applications -- recently opened a new US headquarters in Allentown, Pa., for its Wacker Polymers division. The 6,200-square-meter facility features a technical center with research and applications labs, customer service, sales and marketing, and administrative functions.

The technical center will focus on creating and testing polymer products for the engineered fabrics, architectural coatings, adhesive and construction industries.

The opening marks a big step toward merging Air Products Polymers and Wacker Polymer Systems - former joint ventures that Wacker acquired outright two years ago from Air Products and Chemicals Inc. (See " Wacker Begins Construction Of Wacker Polymers America Headquarters Facility," Nov. 18, 2008.)

"We've consolidated all our North American functions under one roof at our new US headquarters," said Arno von der Eltz, president, Wacker Polymers. "The move will streamline coordination and enhance operational efficiency. Another key advantage is the technical center's proximity to our sales function. This will broaden cooperation between product-development and sales teams, enabling us to optimize customer support."

Wacker Polymers reports it also has plans to establish a training center at the Allentown facility. Programs ranging from basic polymer chemistry to expertise in dry-mix mortar formulation taught by Wacker experts, industry specialists and university lecturers will be offered to construction customers.
