RHL Introduces Nomex® Calender Rolls, Resilio Roll Covering Technology

England-based Richard Hough Ltd. (RHL), a manufacturer of calender roll technology, has introduced a range of DuPont™ Nomex® calender rolls designed specifically for high-temperature calendering in technical textile applications. In addition to offering high temperature resistance, the Nomex-filled rolls are resistant to surface damage and high nip loads. RHL offers new Nomex rolls, or can refill existing filled rolls with Nomex material. The rolls are suitable for applications including high-temperature supercalenders and textile calenders, and high-temperature/high-speed embossing calenders.

RHL has teamed with Just Rollers Plc - an England-based manufacturer of elastomer roll coverings - to develop the new Resilio roll covering technology, which combines RHL's mechanical squeezing and dewatering equipment with specially developed dual-layer technology for the covering. According to the company, trials have shown Resilio offers substantial improvements in water expression - a typical 40-percent better expression on knitted goods and an 18-percent better expression on wovens - over conventional elastomer roll covers. The technology also brings significant cost savings, up to 50,000 euros per year, depending on the application.

RHL has applied for a patent for the Resilio roll, which comes in two versions - the 100 and the 150, which offers increased temperature and abrasion resistance for more strenuous applications. The company will launch the technology at ITM 2009, to be held June 6-10 in Istanbul, Turkey.
