BigSky Technologies Acquires G3i, GreenShield™ Line

Rochester, N.Y.-based BigSky Technologies LLC has acquired the assets to G3 Technology Innovations LLC (G3i), a Pittsford, N.Y.-based manufacturer of environmentally friendly nanomaterials that includes the GreenShield™ family of multifunctional, environmentally friendly textile finishes for water and stain repellency. BigSky will continue to manufacture all current GreenShield products, as well as develop improved formulations and extend the product line to other markets.

"The acquisition by BigSky will allow GreenShield to advance and further expand our Balance™ program," said Brian Rosenstein, director of operations for North Wales, Pa-based TSG Inc., commission finisher that offers GreenShield finishes on woven contract and residential furnishings fabrics. The Balance program focuses on environmentally-friendly fabric finishing. "TSG is very excited about the opportunities this will present for us and our industry," he said.

GreenShield uses patented nanotechnology that enables the finish to permanently bond to surfaces. The volatile organic compound-free finish is Indoor Advantage Gold™ certified by Scientific Certification Systems, an Emeryville, Calif.-based third-party certification services provider and standards developer. GreenShield also has received Cradle to Cradle SM silver certification, from Charlottesville, Va.-based McDonough Braungart Design Chemistry. Cradle to Cradle Design Protocol rates a product's eco-effectiveness.
