Huntsman Introduces Oleophobol® CP-R And CP-S Textile Finishes

Switzerland-based Huntsman Textile Effects - a manufacturer of chemicals and dyes for finished textiles and materials, and a division of Huntsman Corp. - has launched Oleophobol® CP-R and CP-S environmentally friendly textile finishes. Oleophobol CP-R stain-release finish for cotton, man-made fibers and blends facilitates easier removal of water- and oil-based stains during the laundering process.  Oleophobol CP-S oil-, water- and stain-repellent finish for man-made fibers and blends enables spills to be blotted up quickly with a clean, dry, absorbent cloth.

Oleophobol CP products are manufactured by Wilmington, Del.-based DuPont Chemical Solutions Enterprise as DuPont™ Capstone™ products, which are based on short-chain chemistry involving six or fewer fluorinated carbons (See " DuPont Introduces Capstone Products For Textile Use, March/April 2009). According to DuPont, Capstone products provide a step-change reduction in trace impurities of perfluorootanoic acid (PFOA) below the limit of detection without compromising fluorine efficiency. The products meet the requirements of both the US Environmental Protection Agency's 2010/15 PFOA Stewardship Program and Oeko-Tex® Standard 100, and are bluesign® approved as a finish.

According to Hunstman, Oleophobol CP works in mills similarly to traditional products - CP-R is comparable to Oleophobol ZSR, while CP-S performed as well as or better than Oleophobal SLA in most recipes - without an increase in product-use rate. Fabrics treated with Oleophobol CP finishes are breathable and comfortable to wear, and the finishes remain durable after laundering.
