DuPont Now Accepting Submissions For 2008 Plunkett Awards

Wilmington, Del.-based DuPont Fluoropolymer Solutions has issued a worldwide call for entries for the 2008 Plunkett Awards for Innovation and Sustainability. Named after DuPont scientist Dr. Roy Plunkett, who in 1938 discovered polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE), branded as DuPont™ Teflon®, the Plunkett awards are given to companies that employ fluoropolymers to create original solutions that contribute to sustainable growth and reduced environmental impact.

In conjunction with the 70th anniversary of Teflon this year, DuPont has added environmental sustainability as a new awards selection standard to evaluate whether a product or application helps reduce environmental impact through decreased energy and water consumption, lower material or weight, and reduced waste.

“Over the last 70 years, we have worked as partners with our customers to support them in the development of new products for a number of critical industries that rely on the unique properties of fluoropolymers,” said Patrick E. Lindner, global business director, DuPont Fluoropolymer Solutions. “As we look to the next 70 years, a new era of fluoropolymers will emerge with great potential for these products to create more sustainable solutions and reduce environmental footprints. With the new Plunkett Awards for Innovation and Sustainability, we look forward to recognizing and rewarding our customers for their continuing efforts to combine excellence in product innovation with an ongoing commitment to greater environmental sustainability.”

DuPont will select a panel of experts to judge submissions and award a first-, second- and third-place winner in each region. Entries may use any DuPont branded fluoropolymer product.

Entry forms and supporting materials — such as samples, photographs, technical literature or drawings — for the 2008 Plunkett Awards must be submitted by Jan. 15, 2009, and winners will be announced in February 2009.
