ATC To Expand Duquesne Facility

The Duquesne, Pa.-based American Textile Co. (ATC) — a manufacturer of mattress and pillow protectors, bed pillows and mattress pads — has received a $200,000 Enterprise Zone loan from the Redevelopment Authority of the City of Duquesne (RACD). The loan will fund a portion of a $1.6 million expansion of the company’s headquarters including property acquisition, site improvements, new and used equipment purchases, and the addition of employees.

Founded in 1925, ATC consolidated operations of its two Pittsburgh area operations and relocated to the City Center in Duquesne in 2003, investing more than $8 million in the new site. In 2006, ATC invested more than $9 million in its expansion on a 3.62-acre site, constructing an 82,468-square-foot building addition.

With ATC’s pillow business rapidly growing, it has continued to expand pillow storage capacity at the Duquesne facility, with the recent expansion involving the acquisition of a 5-acre lot located next to the current facility. The company anticipates it will need to expand its inventory storage by approximately 35,000 square feet in 2008 to service customers.

“American Textile Company has expanded twice since moving to Duquesne,” said Duquesne Mayor Phil Krivacek. “Since moving to the city with 102 jobs, the company has created 155 additional jobs on the “Brownfield Site” in the Enterprise Zone. American Textile Company is one of the new companies that have come to and grown in Duquesne. “
