Fiber Society Issues Call For Papers
The Fiber Society, Raleigh, N.C., has issued a call for papers for presentation at its Fall 2008
Annual Meeting and Technical Conference, scheduled to be held October 1-3 at the Industrial
Materials Institute, Boucherville, Quebec. Submissions of original work related to the following
topical areas, in addition to cutting-edge work in the field of fibers and fibrous materials, will
be considered:
• fibers and fibrous structures based on functional materials and/or for
functional applications, such as conductive, piezoelectric and others;
• fibers and fibrous structures for biomedical applications;
• high-performance fibers and structures and their applications;
• bio-based/sustainable/green products and processing;
• innovative and/or high-performance fiber processes, such as
electrospinning, very high-speed melt spinning and others; and
• structure and/or performance characterization of fibers and fiber
structures.
The society will accept online submissions beginning June 11, by which date a template will
be provided through a link at www.thefibersociety.org. Deadline for submissions is July 1.
In related news, Clemson University’s Center for Advanced Engineering Fibers and Films will
present a two-day course in conjunction with the conference. The Advanced Fiber Process Development
Workshop will be held September 29-30 and will include information on key fiber-spinning process
components and latest-generation modeling of those components. As part of the workshop, table-top
exhibitors will demonstrate the newest testing and analytical instruments, software, and materials
and material conversion technologies.
Additional information will be provided on the society’s website as details are developed.
