G3i Receives Second Certification From SCS

GreenShield™ - a soil- and stain-repellent textile finish developed by G3 Technologies Innovations (G3i), a Pittsford, N.Y.-based developer and marketer of environmentally sustainable nanomaterials for a range of applications - has received Indoor Advantage™ Gold certification of compliance with indoor air quality standards developed by Emeryville, Calif.-based Scientific Certification Systems (SCS), a third-party certification services provider and standards developer.

The SCS Indoor Advantage Gold standard specifies health-based exposure limits that meet the indoor-air emission criteria specified for low-emitting materials in the California Section 01350 Specification, the first such health-based building material specification established and also the strictest in North America.

The certification is the second GreenShield has received from SCS, the first being certification as a Low Fluorocarbon Treatment, which it earned late last year (See "G3i GreenShield™ Finish Nets First SCS Certification As Low Fluorocarbon Treatment," Dec. 17, 2007, www.TextileWorld.com).

GreenShield is manufactured using an environmentally sustainable process that drastically cuts fluorochemical use, according to G3i. It also can offer flame-retardant, antimicrobial and antibacterial, and antistatic properties.

"We're excited about offering such a major second certification to G3i, and pleased that they're responsibly expanding the scope of environmental assessment for their product offerings,"  said Stowe Hartridge-Beam, program manager for Indoor Advantage Gold, SCS. "Reducing chemicals of concern from manufactured goods is an important part of creating a healthier environment."
