Footprint Introduces Bamboo Socks
Philadelphia-based Footprint - a provider of socks, underwear and baby garments
made with bamboo - reports its bamboo socks are an eco-friendly alternative to man-made-fiber
performance socks for athletes and diabetics. The socks' 95-percent bamboo content offers
antibacterial and moisture-wicking properties and superior comfort, according to the company.
"These socks are made with supreme comfort and the best renewable resource available,
bamboo," said Cheryl Lovelace, company founder.
The company notes that bamboo cultivation and utilization is one solution to the problem of
global warming because acre-for-acre, the plant absorbs five times more greenhouse gases and yields
35 percent more oxygen than an equivalent stand of trees. In addition to its antibacterial and
moisture-wicking properties, the fiber has a soft hand and is lightweight, strong, hypoallergenic
and ultraviolet-resistant.
