DuPont Expands Plunkett Awards
In conjunction with the 70th anniversary of the discovery of polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE),
branded as DuPont™ Teflon®, Wilmington, Del.-based DuPont Fluoropolymer Solutions is adding
environmental sustainability as a new selection standard for its DuPont Plunkett Awards.
The Plunkett Awards for Innovation and Sustainability are given to companies that employ
fluoropolymers to create original solutions that contribute to sustainable growth and reduced
environmental impact. They are named after DuPont scientist Dr. Roy Plunkett, who discovered PTFE
in 1938. DuPont has launched a complete range of PTFE plastics that have found applications in
numerous industries.
“The discovery of DuPont Teflon PTFE fluoropolymer has revolutionized our everyday lives,”
said Patrick E. Lindner, global business director, DuPont Fluoropolymer Solutions. “Its high
performance and durability have benefitted non-stick cookware and other consumer and industrial
products made with fluoropolymers, including semiconductors, waterproof and breathable apparel,
data communication cables, components for automotive, aerospace and renewable energy. DuPont has a
strong tradition in innovation and sustainability that makes our lives better, and as a global
leader in fluoropolymers, we want to recognize others who have the same commitment.”
The call for entries begins in August 2008. The awards will include values higher than
previous awards, as well as a new honorable mention category. The winners will be announced in 2009
during special events held around the world.
