Coville Combines AF&Y's Innova® With Cotton Or Nylon Using StrataTek Technology
Winston-Salem, N.C.-based specialty knit fabric converter Coville Inc.’s AM/P2® antimicrobial
polyolefin apparel fabric line now offers new fabrics made using Troy, N.C.-based Alandale Knitting
Co.’s strataTek technology to combine two separate fabric layers held together by an elastomeric
yarn.
One of the new fabrics features Innova® antimicrobial polypropylene from American Fibers
& Yarns Co. (AF&Y), Chapel Hill, N.C., in one layer and organic cotton in the other.
According to Coville, Innova is used on the underlayer of the fabric to provide inherent
antimicrobial, thermal-regulation, moisture-management, stain-resistance and colorfastness
properties; while the face layer can be printed using a process developed specifically for this
application. The company points out that both layers offer environmentally sustainable benefits, as
Innova is produced using low heat and water consumption, offers inherent performance properties and
is recyclable, while the cotton face layer is biodegradable.
Another fabric in the collection contains Innova on the underside and nylon on the face.
Coville will launch the AM/P2 Collection at the Outdoor Retailer Summer Market in Salt Lake
City next month. AF&Y also will be exhibiting at the show.
