Dow Corning, Daikin Unveil Unidyne™ TG-5521
Dow Corning, Midland, Mich., and
Daikin Industries Ltd., Japan, have developed Unidyne™ TG-5521, a fabric protection treatment that
combines the advantages of silicone and fluorine to provide a softer hand as well as better water
and oil repellency than traditional protective chemistry. Unidyne TG-55321 utilizes the new C6
fluorine platform, which improves its environmental performance, according to the companies.
“People have had some success by mixing chemicals, but putting everything in one molecule gives better all-around performance where a soft hand is desired and allows the mill to concentrate on product quality and productivity,” said Mike Ladd, Unidyne brand business manager, Daikin America Inc., Orangeburg, N.Y. “Customer reaction from trial runs has been very good.”
Daikin, a global developer and supplier of fluorochemical products, has partnered with Dow Corning, a global developer and supplier of silicone-based products, since 2005 to develop products such as Unidyne TG-5521. Daikin will have exclusive rights to sell the new fabric treatment. Production is set to begin early next month.
