Dornier GmbH, Germany (American Dornier Corp., Charlotte, N.C.), recently celebrated its 50th
anniversary. The former aircraft engineering company converted its manufacturing facility to
produce weaving machines in 1950. During its 50-year history, the company has made many
technological steps in both textile weaving and finishing equipment. In 1979, the development of
the circular expander allowed knit goods to be mercerized, bleached and singed in tubular form for
the first time.Development continues at Dornier, and at ATME-I 2001, the company will introduce the
ATV4/S20 air-jet weaving machine with Fast Dobby Change, FDC and Autowarp. The FDC system allows
the positive cam motions to be replaced with a dobby as a subsequent process incorporated with a
